Michael Patterson is a trainer, speaker, and consultant who has been developing individuals to reach their fullest potential since 2000. Mike has over 25 years' experience in the financial industry, including the past 15 working with credit unions throughout the country. Mike started his banking career right out of high school working as a teller. Over the following 10 years he gained valuable knowledgeabout the banking industry while advancing through the branch network. Mike seized an opportunity to transition into training on April 2000, facilitating new hire training for Summit Bank. In November 2001, Mike became the Training Manager for Fox Chase Bank, a small community bank based in Horsham, PA. There, he began utilizing needs-based analysis to research and create training content of the bank's 200 employees. It was also at Fox Chase Bankwhere Mike became more involved in human resouce projects.
In May 2006, Mike became the VP Employee Engagement and Development for TruMark Financial Credit Union, a $2 billion, 400-employee credit union in southeastern Pennsylvania. There he was responsible for the training and development, recruiting, and internal communication. During his tenure at TruMark Financial, Mike created two dozen courses on banking, leadership, sales, communication, and other personal skills topics. He also played a vital role in employee development initiatives such as designing and managing a leadership development program, spearheading a career path initiative for employees, redesigning the performance appraisal process, and more. Mike was instrumental in the credit union's financial literacy program, conducting presentations in local high schools and serving as the host of the company's annual Financial Jeopardy contest. Mike's involvement with outside organizations also grew. He became a frequent presenter at the Pennsylvania Credit Union League sponsored events, including the Judge/Bradley Management School and its annual conference Connect!
Today, Mike is the Chief Branding Officer for Horizon Federal Credit Union, based in Williamsport, PA. He is responsible for the Human Resources, Training, and Marketing initiatives of the credit union. Mike also leads coordinating Horizon's annual Expand Expo training conference, attracting credit union professionals and vendors from throughout the country each fall. Through the years Mike has presented for credit union organizations such as CUNA, NCUMA, and numerous state leagues and individual credit unions. He served as a certified trainer for Skill Path Seminars, and has presented in 22 different states, as well as Puerto Rico and Aruba.
One of the biggest influences in Mike's leadership is the teaching of John Maxwell. In August 2018, Mike became certified as a trainer, speaker, and coach with the John Maxwell Team.
Mike is the author of four books; Promotions Are Not Served at the Deli Counter, Sit Stay Succeed: Management Lessons from Man's Best Friends, The Sales Coach, and his most recent book - Full Inflated: Regain Your Bounce in Life.. His articles have been published in AOL Jobs, Training Magazine, The Credit Union Executive Society, PCUA Key Notes, and CU Management.
Aside from training and development, Mike served for seven years as a volunteer Big Brother. He spent 22 seasons as a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) wrestling referee, officiating two state championship tournaments. Mike grew up in suburban Philadelphia, and currently lives in NorthCentral Pennsylvania with his wife Ann and their daughter Kyleigh.
